I have been trying to find organized protests in my area. I cannot find any. I was thinking about starting an event on Facebook but have yet to do so. I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
I will be standing on the steps of our local courthouse tonight protesting against systemic governmental oppression. I want others to join or I am happy to drive somewhere else where others are. I can just stand there by myself and my sign if that is what happens.
Please reply with any help about protests you can, even if it isn't in direct relation to my op. If you think it might help, post it.
If there is anyone else local feel free to reach out to me. I live in Pinellas County, Florida. More specifically Clearwater. Clearwater is where I plan on protesting tonight.
I'm not coming to you without doing some basic internet searches. I've been to Indivisible and other protest coordinating sites. I just don't see anything.
Thank you!

(93 posts)Sign ready to go. I never found any information but went under the assumption that at least a couple of people would be in front of the courthouse or at nearby Coachman Park.
There was a heavy police presence when I got downtown so I knew something was going on. I felt that my best bet to park was at the courthouse, where the parking lot was empty, and just walk toward the main huddle of police about a half mile away.
When I got near Coachman Park I saw protestors marching in the direction of the park. The chants and event were being led by a young pastor. He had everyone fired up and on point.
When we got to the park the Pastor took to the stage. What a great young speaker. Brutally blunt and he hit on so much. His call for action covered everything from education our babies to legislation to holding criminal cops accountable.
Many City official were there.
Aside from the protest.
Under Obama one of our local police agencies was assessed by the DOJ and numerous civil rights issues were highlighted. They had policies, guidelines and a general pattern of action that targeted minorities over others.
That police department made serious changes. They got into what is often described as community policing. The heads of the department then ended up supporting the decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana after being pushed by local churches and other organizations.
What happens locally matters. What happens at the federal level matters. Those on this board who livi in or near St. Petersburg know what Im talking about. Their police department was somewhat taken to task and they answered the call. These days St. Pete police arent just there to protect the local communities marches, they often take part in them. They arent perfect and its an evolving relationship. It always will and should be evolving.
