...and electronic trinkets to make an otherwise unbearable life somewhat tolerable. I cannot support these actions, but I also cannot outright condemn them either. These are items that we take for granted, but many people cannot afford it.

(25,406 posts)the lockdown protesters from two weeks ago? Yes, they were goofy-ass as hell at the very least, and threatening when they brought their weapons to the Michigan state capitol building, but they didn't loot stores or burn cop cars that were paid for by all of the citizens. Am I understanding enough for you?

(25,406 posts)stealing and arson. They destroy trust between people. And that feeds into Trump's divide-and-conquer strategy, through which he has accomplished nearly everything he's ever done.

(93 posts)I support them. I will not excuse or apologize for understandable actions. Everyone saw this coming. Now a bunch of people are acting outraged and bothered by the actions of a group who have been stepped on, shit on, and murdered; without justice.

(15,398 posts)Theft to maintain one's life - food (including small farm animals or produce stolen for food) or clothing - you owed the theft to the owner and paid it off through some form of work or charity to the community the owner could then claim for him or herself. You do not pay a fine or pay the judge/jury that would hear your case, because the theft was generally considered justifiable, even if it were wrong.
Theft to maintain one's livelihood - as in tools or farming implements you do not possess at the time but require for what would be considered important tasks that did not otherwise hurt the original owner - you paid a small fine to the owner, the judge/jury that would hear your case, and returned/replaced what you stole as soon as possible.
Theft of items by opportunity not required to sustain life or livelihood (including stealing livestock or moving boundary stones)- pay fine to judge and jury, spend some time incarcerated, the items were returned to the owner, and you gave up property or items of equal worth to the owner to pay for their injury.
Burglary - theft of valuables - serious fines, payment of judge and jury, incarceration or banishment, and cosmetic physical marking (branding, cutting).
Robbery - Malicious theft with injury or death to the owner. All of above with the possibility of death.
Looting for the most part is in the first three categories, unless it's being accomplished by a criminal gang. It is wrong, but should not be punishable by death.
