7. Oh man, years ago we had this guy in Philly running the union

Who eventually went to jail but what a shakedown artist and criminal he was. Before he was head of the union he ran their health and welfare plan which included dental and he called me up one time and threaten me. I asked him whether he was operating as a police officer which he was, or as a union official, because when I was going to hang up the phone I was then going to call the United States attorneys office and file a complaint.

Well his whole tone changed after that, apologized for the mistake he made, and boy was it a mistake, and hung up quickly. It was not long there after that he was indicted tried convicted and sent to prison. I can only imagine what the head of the police union must’ve been thinking every moment while he was incarcerated even if he was separated from the general population.

Here like everywhere else, if a cop does something and it makes it to the papers, no matter how Heinous, it is reflexively defended by the head of the union or the spokesman. If the cop got on the top City Hall tower and shot 175 people they would make excuses for possible extenuating circumstances and the fact would need to be reviewed and the justice system would need to be exercised. Of course, if they see a kid with A piece of licorice they have no issue beating him half to death because they thought it was a gun.
