MSNBC's Eddie Glaude Shades Biden After Widely-Lauded Speech:

MSNBC’s Eddie Glaude Shades Biden After Widely-Lauded Speech: His Words Need to ‘Rise to the Level’ of Our Problems
By Ken Meyer

MSNBC contributor Eddie Glaude Jr. said Joe Biden did not go far enough in addressing America’s problems driven to the forefront after George Floyd’s fatal police arrest.

The ex-veep and gave a speech on the country’s social unrest Tuesday, and it drew early positive reviews among political observers because of how Biden contrasted himself from President Donald Trump by stressing the need for racial justice. When Glaude offered his reaction to the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential candidate’s remarks, he acknowledged Biden’s expression of empathy, but then said he “struggled” with the question of “whether or not the scale of [Biden’s] response matches the scale of the problem.”

“I think it’s absolutely a good beginning to begin to talk about chokeholds, but I think he needs to be talking about qualified immunity. I think he needs to be talking about demilitarization and decriminalization. That’s a good beginning,” Glaude said. “But I think he needs to offer a set of remedies that actually rise to the level of the problems we face.”

For the record I do not agree with Mr. Glaude and remember him constantly attacking Hillary Clinton in 16.

when he said he “wouldn't hold his breath“ for the right thing happening in the Floyd death.

He sort of caught himself, then tried to say it differently, then just moved on. Were I Eddie Glaude, i might have said that he needed to say something to the effect of “please excuse me for that unfortunate choice of words.”

Biden didn't give the most perfect ever all encompassing addresses every need perfectly speech.

Glaude laid out some areas he'd like to see Biden talk about. That's it.
Areas that he's right about.

That's not remotely "shade." You've let a ridiculous headline written for clicks "shade" your perception of what Glaude is saying here.

This is part of the problem, too many people think a good start is all we need. We are well passed that now.

So yeah, good start. Great contrast with Trump. But it's only the beginning.

Biden would be the first to agree with ALL of that by the way.

If you think I meant otherwise, then that is simply you trying to posit a false frame onto it. I support Biden, end of story. I cannot speak for anyone else. I urge them to support him as well, as Trump is a fucking monster.

36. why?

What did he say that was wrong?

Did Biden give the most perfect speech in history that couldn't possibly have been even a tiny bit improved?

Do you think the lead AA professor of AA studies at an Ivy League school might have some ideas about improving this particular situation that Biden or any other politician might learn something from?

Is this a "Bernie leftist" thing or is this an AA thing? (note: I am as far from a Bernie supporter as there is, I'm also an AA, I might suggest to you strongly which way it goes---if you are curious enough to ask).

Do you think prodding someone to go beyond is a bad thing?

Where did he say it was a bad speech, or even not a good speech?

Are you and the rest of the folks in this thread examining what Glaude said critically and with thought, or are you reading a headline about "shade" and reflexively attacking based on that?

How do you think Biden would react? Would he say, no Glaude, I nailed that speech, or will he say, Hey Professor, let's talk, I would like to hear your ideas? Because I'm fairly certain it would be the latter. And if you agree, then again, I ask...why?

42. If he has some great ideas, he should think them through, write them out, present them to Biden

and discuss them with him constructively.

Offering a hot take in a 5 minute hit on live TV minutes after watching a speech on his computer isn't brilliant thought leadership. It's punditry.

43. that's not really a critique of his points

or what he said though.

What was not constructive about what he said?

What did he say that wasn't true?

What did he say that negative? (saying you need to do more is not negative).

Or is it simply, he didn't say Biden was great, full stop, and I don't want to hear anything other than that?

You know, if he'd said something negative, then I'd disapprove of it. But I see nothing negative. I see constructive points. I see saying this is a good start, but we need more. I don't remotely see how that's a "hot take" or "punditry." And if it was either, you'd be ok with it if said hot take or punditry was "that was a great speech!" Right? So the problem isn't the hot take or punditry.

45. Well, not the way you do. "White America" elected Obama twice.

Not alone, of course. But white America was the largest demo who gave Obama his big margins of victory.

Of course I agree with you in essence for the rest. You bet Biden does. And he knows, from associating with people who've risen to great power, that reactions to huge change and information are due above all to personality. That's those conservative Jews.

Social conservatives of virtually all demos, of all info levels, are reacting in much the same way to the election of black and female presidents, of other great advances in equality, to LGBTQ+, who not only have the right to exist but can even marry. Today the demo with the most college degrees isn't white men but black women. Many thousands of women of all colors hold positions of power and authority, private and government. Strong conservative Jewish men don't like that any more than strong conservative black or white men.

And the Glaudes will always be with us. Where weak minds were reached, he no doubt succeeded in what he intended -- to undermine hope and confidence in Democrats.

Biden's working long hours planning the rescue of our nation, both with people he intends to name to government positions and those who will continue to serve from private industry. People either realize that's the way it has to be or they refuse to know it, or they're turned off by too much information and will only accept gut-level reassurance of what they want to believe.

63. I don't even watch MSNBC anymore

CNN has been doing a great job covering the protests and Biden. Don Lemon has no more shits to give and is so much more engaging than Chris Hayes. Anderson Cooper was on fire last night about how the protesters were gassed and fired on just for Trump’s photo op.

No network is perfect, but CNN has been pretty awesome as of late.
