I've mentioned before that the Mrs. and I aren't leaving home very often (maybe once or twice a month) these days, no matter the whether the rules are being relaxed or not, since I am one of those old farts who is 'compromised'.
The KY primary is coming up and there is no way I'm going to risk my life by going to the High School gym where several precincts vote. So, I checked with the County Clerk's Office about who can qualify for an absentee ballot. Turns out you Google 'ky absentee ballot' which asks you what county you live in, you click on your county and it takes you to the home page of your county clerk. One more click and you are in the 'application for absentee ballot'. Fill out the form and you are done. And then...
You get a page that says they will mail you your ballot. Then, and here's the one that almost knocked me over. There is a statement saying something to the effect that "due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, we suggest that ALL voters apply for an absentee ballot"
Y'know, KY may not be quite as backward as you seem to think sometimes.

(15,589 posts)Do you think this would have happened if Bevin had won reelection?

Hell, if Bevin had won he probably would have refused to allow you to vote if you were a Democrat.
But he didn't and we got a reasonable Democrat as Governor.

(4,033 posts)For a number of years our Executive Branch of state gov't was Dem - Gov., Lt. Gov., and SecState. But in the last election, to many Trumpinistas voted. The Lt. Gov and the SecState got taken by the wacko Repubs. And the race for Gov couldn't have been closer.
Please remember that Moscow Mitch has pockets almost as deep as the Orange Shitgibbon, as does his wife. However his Dem challenger is still raking in more money than Mitch and almost all of it is coming from grass roots donations. The primary coming up in a few weeks will be the first election that I don't show up at the polls, but I will still be voting!!

(38,958 posts)We received absentee applications in the mail for all the 2020 elections. Just had to fill out the paperwork and mail it back in the postage paid envelope. So we will get ballots mailed in time for the August primary and the general election when those come up. Just did the delayed April local school board ballots a few weeks ago.
