@Redistrict
I've seen enough. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D) wins the #NM03 primary to succeed Rep. Ben Ray Lujan (D), defeating former CIA agent Valerie Plame.

(23,302 posts)Valerie. Granted, Im not terribly familiar with the local issues in that district. Valerie Plame is a hero. This doesnt change that.

(7,573 posts)I was pulling for Valerie.
Maybe she'll find another government job; high qualifications, after all.

(25,841 posts)I heard an interview with Teresa Leger Fernandez a long time ago, some time last year, and I was blown away by her articulateness, her deep roots in New Mexico, her intelligence, and her obvious fitness for the office.
Valerie Plame is basically something of a folk hero because of what she went through under W, and I'm sure she's a lovely person, but this state is going to be very well served by Teresa.
Oh, and this is my district.
Which means that after the election, we will have an all-female Congressional delegation. Also, we have one of the first two Native Americans elected to Congress, Deb Haaland.

(25,841 posts)I haven't a clue what you mean here, except to suggest I'm a bimbo, which I am not. An irritating jerk sometimes, but not a bimbo.

(10,143 posts)support. Plame had little support in either of those communities. Fernandez will represent the district well.

(25,841 posts)Or for any Democrat who had won.
The state as a whole, and especially northern New Mexico, is very heavily Democratic. Even the southern part of the state, the 2nd District, elected a Democrat to the House two years ago, and she will probably be re-elected this year. That race will be more competitive.

(1,366 posts)I thought it was wonderful. As time progressed it became clear that Teresa Leger Fernandez was probably better suited to take over NM03 from Ben Lujan. Valerie spent most of her valuable air time that I saw showing about her past with Cheney and Bush, etc. She didn't really communicate what she was for, in our current times, just her toughness. I am not in NM03 but NM01 so I don't have all the details they could have been presenting- just the local TV exposure.
