(19,564 posts)There's a lot of sub groups here where a person can release some stress.
Also, I know you. You have friends here. Lean on those who care when when you need to. That's ok.

(9,895 posts)My best coping is to vent my emotions here amongst clear thinking, like-minded people and to get away from all screens for at least 10 hours a day (including sleep)...
My problem with that coping mechanism is that my brain seems to NEED more sleep time now than previously...I am ALWAYS tired, even when I get sleep in quantities greater than before this all started.
You are definitely NOT alone!

(3,266 posts)any screens for 10 hours a day. Its incredibly good advice, but I have serious FOMO, I cant go more than 45 minutes. Im sure it would help tremendously with my anxiety and depression. Kudos. Im going to resolve to start with an hour at a time, a few times a day.

(19,564 posts)This is where a lot of us are and it's important to emphasize with each other right now.
Even though our degrees and exact circumstances might vary, the trajectories are basically the same. We're all impacted and trying to navigate this insanity together, as beast we can.

(12,631 posts)These are all young people, doing this on their own initiative. All us oldies are sheltering in place. The youngsters are reacting not only to the injustices of police behavior, but to the pandemic having ripped aside the curtain and showing us who the necessary people, the essential people who carry the rest of us on their backs really are. Theyre the low paid , largely people of color without whom all would fall apart. The young people have imbibed this truth . Maybe things can change. I have hope now. I hope you can have some too.

(17,288 posts)I found getting outside (safely and social distancing) if you can is a real boost. A walk or just hang out a bit.

(29,322 posts)Most people support the protests including 7 in 10 suburbanites and over half from rural areas. Most people disapprove of Trump's response.
Also Joe Biden's fundraising numbers are through the roof because of this. So there is no need to fear an election loss because this hurts Trump more than it helps him.

(25,853 posts)Perhaps it's because I don't own a regular TV, and so have seen remarkably little of what has actually been happening.
I'm also very much an optimist all the time.
Honestly, while what's going on is serious, do yourself a favor and severely limit your watching.

The protests have restored my faith in humanity.

(8,049 posts)The world has changed so completely in the past year. Between impeachment, bloody primaries, COVID, and now hundreds of thousands of Americans out in the streets getting shot at, beaten, killed and tear-gassed. Just typing it makes me tired.

(1,184 posts)I've gone in and out of depression since Covid started. I teach high school music, and I really miss my kids, and the prospect of large group singing or performing for live audiences any time soon does not seem encouraging. The isolation of Covid, the anxiety and sadness of our race conflict, Trump's incompetence, pinching pennies due to lower income in our family, and some other personal bullshit have hit me lately.
Oddly, some days and moments I feel great. Quarantine has allowed me to practice some music I hadn't been otherwise, and my wife, dog, and I have been able to spend huge amounts of time together. We go on long walks every day, watch some things on Netflix, etc. When "normal" life resumes, I'll be nostalgic for a lot of this time spent together, actually. Odd to think of anything from this time being nostalgic, but I can see that.
The confluence of everything over the past week has really affected my mood. Thanks for starting this thread. I needed it.

(27,808 posts)It's honestly the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and it just hangs on. The dermatologist said that it has stress triggers (I won't get into all the details of my personal stresses here, it's nothing too out of the ordinary, just manifested itself in shingles).
It's an emotionally draining illness. Physically I am not tired, but I want to spend full days in bed (and have).

(19,564 posts)Seriously, you're not alone right now. There's 10's of thousands of folks out there right this moment also going, "what the fuck is happening in our/my life and world!?
Start here: Breathe deeply several times a day while practicing not thinking about any of this mess. It helps more than you'd think.
Also, Set goals daily, even if they're small ones and make sure you check them off. You know you. I don't care if it's showering and putting on pants, raise your bar and see it through. Baby steps win the day. Ok?
Keep in touch. We're all in this mess together, no matter how it might seem right now.

(23,629 posts)we are in nationwide PTSD... i have never seen until now a human being murdered.. but if you've watched 8:46 you now have also..
and that's only the -~9 minutes they show, there may be more ?
but the 1st time i watched ? it felt like forever ... and i went cold and in shock and thought if that was happening to me ? i wouldn't last 2 minutes, i'd be crushed, i'm seriously claustrophobic and i'd just die under that torture..
and watching that murderer committing the crime with no emotion whatsoever on his face until he was dead, and holding that lock for several more minutes,
to be sure... can you forget it ?
i've seen in vids and movies murder mayhem and death knowing it was Hollywood graphics and special effects to make it seem real ... it doesn't keep me awake at night ...
but i'm fractured after 8:46 knowing it's potential for each and every one of us,
in some form or another..
so no, i don't sleep well at night ...
😠

(11,885 posts)Or go to You Tube and travel , and go hiking with someone , or to a different country to see their cultures, anything interesting to redirect attention for a while. Music concerts to are great to watch, but I have to stop watching sometimes, especially when they show him talking , I turn the channel .
