Thankfully she went peacefully. She was 87 and had a long and full life. I don't wish to grieve but to celebrate her life.
As a young women she joined the local democratic club and eventually rose to be co-leader of that club. She became a state committee woman and served as state party co-chair as well as on the DNC. In her later years she sat on an advisory board to the state's department of elections and convinced them to adopt optical scan paper ballots so there would always be a paper trail in state elections.
Let her be an inspiration that one person can make a difference.

(14,405 posts)for the coming election. We will need a lot of Angel power to get every voter to the polls, and mom angels have super powers! (Mine came to me in a dream and told me that my daughter and son in law were expecting... imagine their surprise when daughter took a test after my phone call to her, to find out that grandma was right!

(29,574 posts)I am impressed by her activism. We are losing a generation of these hard-working Democratic women (my mother, now 84, among them), people who have fought the good fight against incredible odds for a while. A toast to her life. I'm sorry she never saw a woman president.

(29,718 posts)The lines you wrote were enough to give us a sense of her social priorities, and how much she contributed to our community, for so long. I am grateful for her dedication to making this a better world. What is between the lines we can only imagine, and for that I extend a hug and a wish that happy memories will wash over the grief, to comfort you more and more with time.
An admirable woman, your mom. May her memory be a blessing.

(54,898 posts)after 17 years of taking care of me. She had an I VOTED sticker on each stuffed animal and I even have a photo from 10 years ago where she has one on her forehead. It was a perfect existence... just the two of us and it was pure love.
I hope you are able to handle your loss better than me. I am a wreck. I am certain that a padded truck will be pulling up for me any day now with a Covid -style straitjacket with my name on it. My healthy dad died suddenly a year ago and I am still grieving that loss. This makes Hell look like a picnic, to me anyway. Why does this happen to wonderful beings yet the crazy, orange sadist lives on and on and on.......?????
