3. Could American Evangelicals Spot the Antichrist? Here Are the Biblical Predictions:

Benjamin L. Corey

I grew up in the rapture-me-outta-here end times movement, and have spilled no shortage of ink critiquing it– even poking a bit of fun at it. As a theologian I fall into a category of belief that sees biblical prophecies about “the end” as being events that have mostly been fulfilled in the past, but I try to hold that belief gently and recognize I could be wrong.

Here are the no-kidding-not-satire-prophecies and signs of the antichrist the Bible tells us to watch out for… and that blew my mind by the time I was done:

The Antichrist will be a man who is exceptionally arrogant and will be known for giving boastful speeches.

“I could hear his boastful speech…”
Daniel 7:8, Revelation 13:5
So, as you keep your eyes peeled for the Antichrist, be sure to keep in mind that it won’t be a quiet leader who is deceitfully humble and flies under the radar– The Bible says it will be someone who loves to give speeches where he boasts about himself.

The Antichrist will make fake news popular and will be a chronic liar. His followers will believe his delusions because they hate the truth.

“He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior… He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.”
Daniel 8:25, 2 Thess 2:10

Daniel 8 and 2nd Thessalonians 2 are incredibly descriptive warnings to help us recognize the Antichrist. Predicting that under his rule “deceit will prosper” warns us to look for someone who calls the truth “fake news” and who is known for constantly lying.

In fact, the Antichrist lies so much that the Bible stops calling him the Antichrist and starts calling him The Liar– using the definite article for effect– as if he begins to personify fake news and lies.

humanity has failed massively and thus, the 'end times' are coming.

All such predictions made in the past have failed miserably and will continue to fail again.

They will continue to hold up their bibles and scream the loudest, while humanity still goes on its way, curing diseases, expanding the scale and scope of technology advances into all segments of society, and trying as a whole, to improve humanity's lot.

The human race is exploring far beyond the boundaries of this solar system. We've landed on the moon. We landed on Mars. We advanced the cause of medicine to far beyond imagination of even 50 years ago. We are, for the most part, feeding the vast majority of the human race when just even 50 years ago, there were doomsday predictions that a population count that we have today (7 billion plus) would massively starve etc.

Technology is leaping ahead regardless of such dire predictions, in such ways that the limits of technology are being reached in that we are reaching the limits of how many microprocessors we can cram onto a chip now, that a person can be wired up, and control an artificial hand, drive a vehicle, design something via a hologram, etc. all with their mind.

I refuse to ever believe those that preach doom and gloom, instead of preaching of the goodness of the human heart and abilities.

What I do know, from historical accounts, that those who predict 'end times' without any evidence, without a shred of truth, will in turn, face their own 'end times'. Society will come to view such doomsayers as crackpots, and will dump them, as well as their followers who believed in them, into the trash bin of history. They will lose their fortunes, reputations, everything, in staking everything they have and own, into these beliefs, that were sadly espoused by others for their own personal gain. I see a current wave of such followers today. You all know whom I speak of.

What I do believe in, is the human race. I believe that we're on the cusp of even greater things to be accomplished and done, and we yet to see the amazing things and accomplishments that will be done. I believe that the vast majority of us are good, and decent people. I believe that we can overcome everything.

I refuse to participate in any of the farce that some of our religious institutions are/have participated in (the Dark Ages, etc., the Spanish inquisition, and other horrible acts against humanity that the church of then participated in). We are still struggling to overcome those dark days.

I agree with the scholars who say that the Revelation of St. John was an allegory of the time in which it was written and is in no way, shape, or form, prophecy.

However, it's interesting how much Trump aligns with the popular descriptions of the Antichrist in fundamentalist/millenialist circles, and I like to keep the article I posted handy to share that with them.

from any of these people and I will call them down w/ logic and such if I have to. After all, they want me to respect their religious beliefs and such, fine, but respect mine too. It works both ways.
