Surfing the cable channels yesterday to get their various perspectives,
I heard this whopper on Faux Noise:
"Fox News can not independently confirm that tear gas was used to clear demonstrators from Lafayette Park
across from the White House."
The 'reporter' continues:
"While I was not there, my sources tell me IF tear gas was present
it could have been used by someone among the crowd to create chaos."

Among others, they include chloroacetophenone (CN), more commonly referred to as mace, or pepper sprays in other words, the compound that was deployed in Lafayette Square and chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile (CS), one of the most commonly used tear gases in the world, according to an article in the British Medical Journal.
