Author of new book on Churchill re McEnany comparing Trump to Churchill: "verges on obscenity"

I'll post Erik Larson's tweet below, but first want to link to NPR's review of his new book on Churchill:

https://www.npr.org/2020/02/20/807027681/churchills-first-year-as-prime-minister-is-electric-in-the-splendid-and-the-vile

Larson's tweet, minutes ago:

Just wanted to say that I am appalled at the White House attempt to liken Trump's bible stunt to Churchill visiting bombed-out neighborhoods. The comparison verges on obscenity. Churchill wept on these visits; he offered compassion and hope, and helped people find their courage.

personal demons as well. It's widely known he suffered from deep clinical depressions.

Would that this creature (I can't call him human) get help for his fear, his paranoia, his self-pitying loathsome narcissism, his addictions, his potential dementia, his hard-wired hate!

A unique talent: a historian who can write like a novelist.

His latest book is on my desk right now.

PERIOD - he has more in common with the Con than people want to admit. But he was not a short-fingered vulgarian.

When in doubt, pout.

President Trump told staffers working on his campaign that he wanted to look 'like [Winston] Churchill' in photographs and images, believing that he would appear tougher according to a new report in The New York Times.

That is why Donnie, like Winnie, reportedly prefers to scowl, squint and maintain a general sourpuss on his face whenever he is in front of a camera.

It also explains why President Trump may have returned the bust of the prime minister to the Oval Office, with the proximity to his own desk allowing him to practice the downcast frown and furrowed brow favored by the former leader of the United Kingdom.

Finest Hour just covers from the time Churchill became prime minister up to 1941. He was articulate and dynamic. Anyone who would compare trump to him is such an idiot that should wear a muzzle. Winnie tracked every aspect of the war. He was the man they needed at that time. He wasn’t perfect and no doubt people died when he tried to micromanage warfare but he at least knew all the info and kept up the country’s spirits during dark times.

He would have nothing nice to say about Lysol Von Clusterfuck, but he would say it in a way that would make Von Clusterfuck think he was being complemented.
