We cannot tolerate an American secret police.
I will be introducing legislation to require uniformed federal officers performing any domestic security duties to clearly identify what military branch or agency they represent.

(15,325 posts)This questioning of legitimacy began on twitter/social media last night.
Not evev 12 hrs later we had Legislators alarmed & questioning it as well. And by the end of this day we have legislation in the works.
Thanks to Sen Murphy & all who listened, spoke up & acted with the powers we gave you.
Thank You!

(5,477 posts)WASHINGTON Update: The Bureau of Prisons has confirmed to CBS News that the riot officers in D.C. who have been unwilling to identify themselves are BOP employees.
Armed riot officers without identifying marks or badges began manning the perimeter around the White House Wednesday morning, and now a Virginia congressman says he is working on legislation to stop it from happening again.

In response to photos and reports about the unmarked security officers flooding social media, Virginia Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA 08) tweeted that he was working on legislation to prevent similar actions in the future, writing that it was unacceptable for uniformed federal officers policing constitutionally-protected assemblies to refuse to identify themselves to people who pay their salaries.

(2,690 posts)Might as well be if they refuse to produce Federal ID.
If they are, in fact, BOP Riot Fuzz, who gave them the order to remove Federal identifying ID from their uniforms? If they are not BOP who the hell are they and WTF?

(35,296 posts)They were the "police" behind the scenes, rooting out those with the wrong views and either getting them arrested or destroyed for real or imagined working against the government.
Often the visible police would do their bidding, but sometimes you'd just realize they'd come and gone when somebody would vanish in the middle of the night or go to lunch and not come back.

(22,354 posts)You would see someone being manhandled into a car, screaming that they were being kidnapped. None of the passer-byes would dare to even look.
That is what daily life was like in a police state.
