Aaron Rodgers responds to Drew Brees flag comments

The latest comments from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees are not going well. In an interview on Wednesday, Brees said he would not disrespect the flag by kneeling when asked about that form of protest returning in the wake of the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

Many players were critical of Brees, including superstar wide receiver and teammate Michael Thomas who felt Brees’ comments missed the point. Now, another superstar quarterback is weighing in: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“A few years ago we were criticized for locking arms in solidarity before the game,” Rodgers wrote. “It has NEVER been about an anthem or a flag. Not then. Not now. Listen with an open heart, let’s educate ourselves, and then turn word and thought into action. #wakeupamerica #itstimeforchange #loveoverfear?? #solidarity #libertyandjusticeforall #all.”

I heard his parents belong to a rather conservative Christian sect.
I guess they're not happy with choices he's (Aaron) has made.
per his brother Jordan:
“Me and Aaron don’t really have that much of a relationship,” Jordan said, adding, “It’s just kind of the way he’s chosen to do life, and I chose to stay close with my family and my parents and my brother [Luke].”

Family is from Chico area. Not as liberal a place. At least it wasn't back in the 80's

All of their kids are left wing Democrats—but not in a protest of our parents, just what we found in our hearts to be real.

A good lesson in standing your ground for what you believe is right in the face of blowback only to be vindicated by history and your detractors look like fools. I really hope an NFL team signs Kaepernick. I LOVE this guy!

This idea of disrespecting the flag and the troops is nothing but a right wing talking point. If they are so concerned about disrespecting the troops, how come so many stand by a man that disrespected John McCain, Gold Star Families and was so callous to Sgt LaDavid Johnson's widow?
I don't know how they continue to say this BS with a straight face.

.

Does he have to fall in line with people's thinking? Does he have to agree 100 percent with your outlook?

Who are you to impose you're thinking on others? Impose litmus tests on folks.

The issue he addressed is only about methodology, not the core of the issue.

He holds the American flag to a certain reverence. Shouldn't you respect him as you ask him to respect you?

The great Jim Brown actually has the same opinion and I challenge anyone here to talk about Jim Brown that way.

What I find most disturbing about what you wrote is, you're essentially saying, "Brees has an opinion and that's where it should end."
No. He is entitled to his opinion, as is Rodgers, Le Bron James, Malcolm Jenkins and I am. Just like you are entitled to yours. Push back is part of making a statement.
He doesn't have to agree with me. But, when he, you or I say something, others are also allowed to state their positions as well.

One has every right to criticize what he said and all I’m doing is criticizing what I think are the overly negative statements about him. By pointing out their own intolerance.

Brees didn't say anything racist. Just said he thinks certain folks dissed the flag and he didn't like that.

Now if Brees did say anything racist then their extreme criticism I would agree with.

I might disagree with Brees. But I respect his feeling towards the flag, something I don’t share but do respect others for their feeling.

But if that feeling goes as far as Trump does then sure I would condemn it too.

Just saying one loves the flag and can't get with folks they deem who disses it doesn't go as far as that jack-ass Trump has gone

All I’m doing is pointing out that what Brees said wasn’t really no big thing. IMO.

And sure one can criticize it that’s what forums are all about and I can criticize the criticism or try to point out that the criticism may be an overreaction if you really analyze what he actually said.

In the present climate of sensitivities being raw; folks may overreact.

One of Brees’s teammates told him to shut the f___ up. Then he deleted the statement.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/10/11/jim-brown-protests-kneeling-national-anthem

Brown has previously spoken out on players taking a knee during the national anthem. While Brown said that he supports players' rights to protest, he "will always respect the flag" and stand during the anthem.

In 2016, Brown said that he supported then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's decision to protest social injustices. However, Brown criticized Kaepernick for taking a knee.

personally, I have no problem taking a knee.
