This is a good start, but action should follow.

(32,599 posts)Notice the date looks like it was rubber stamped? I'll bet this letter was written earlier but not published until General Mattis spoke first.
That's my guess and I don't have any insider info. It's just the timing of the letter looks coordinated with the other events of the day. If that's the case, it sure looks like these military guys are all talking to each other. They've decided it's finally time to join the barricades. Hopefully many more will be speaking up.

(67,782 posts)...although the position is curious.
He's a "lower level" (not an insult) General, which normally isn't a political appointment but earned through accomplishments. trump can't fire him.

(21,346 posts)all branches of the military to be non-political and to take no public political positions. There are regulations governing this principle in order to prevent politicians from turning the military into a personal force for a coup against democracy.
So, for our military leaders to be making these public statements now indicates that they ARE talking among themselves. It indicates that they are fully aware of and concerned about the danger that Trumpian politics present to our nation. Trump et. al. have become a security threat to the USA. They have become the enemy within.
So our military leaders have risen to their oath to defend the Constitution and the nation from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC, e.g. Donald J Trump and his supporters.
Thank God (or whoever or whatever you personally thank).
This is the most encouraging news I have seen in 3 1/2 years.

(1,979 posts)I work - well it doesn't matter. We date stamp AFTER it is officially signed and that is so that there is no question that it has been reviewed on that date. We do this for a very specific purpose. If I receive a memo or letter for my superior's signature and it has a typed in date, I will send it back for that date to be removed. Once I get the document reviewed and signed, I then date stamp it and send it on for distribution.
Summary - the fact that it is date stamped leads me to believe it is absolutely legit.

(32,599 posts)The timing of his tweet was something like 8 p.m. on June 3rd - well after General Mattis delivered his comments on CNN and the other news channels.
I still believe that this could have been written (and signed) earlier and not published until after Gen. Mattis gave his remarks. If so, it would suggest that the Generals coordinated their responses.

(21,346 posts)aka mercenary. Not part of the official military branches of government. He is a major part of the problem with "privatization" of the military.
In a democracy, some things should never be privatized. Definitely not the military. Nor prisons. Nor police, fire departments, ICE detention centers, youth detention centers. Some things are beyond the profit motive -- or should be -- in order for society to function.
Prince is no better than other former military who use their training and experience to join or associate with white supremacy militias, like Timothy McVeigh did. Prince just makes money off of it under the guise of official government contracts that allow him to operate without the oversight and scrutiny that the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard are subject to.
Many companies that do research and manufacturing have government contracts. But that is not the same as funding and sending private military personnel to fight, supposedly on behalf of the nation.

(68,491 posts)Robert Sterling ,Clark, Grayson, M.P. Murphy, and Prescott Bush attempted to overthrow our Republic. It was a military man, Major General Smedly butler who was approached by the traitors...he ratted them out to Congress. The New York Times ridiculed the story (never changes) but Congress investigated and there was a plot with even more influential business leaders involved. The record still exists, and I have read it. I was proud that a marine saved the day. Both my brother and sister were Marine. My oldest sister was one of the first women Marines and earned the highest medal one can get in peacetime.( this was the early 80's). I am a Navy brat born at Great Lakes, and I know men and women like my My Mom and Dad would never have taken up arms against the American people. I believe such men and women exist today.
