NASA tracking stadium-sized asteroid headed toward Earth

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – NASA is keeping tabs on five asteroids heading toward Earth over the next few days, with one the size of a stadium.

According to the agency’s asteroid watch, the largest of the five currently being tracked is 1,100 feet wide, roughly the size of a stadium...

The one pictured will be at its closest six times farther away than the Moon.

My Son the Astronomer sent me this link which lists a bunch of asteroids and their probability of actually striking Earth. That's the column in blue. Since that's scientific notation, which a lot of us aren't very familiar with, just click on any one of them to see it expressed in terms we understand. Basically, everything has a 99.99% chance of missing our planet.

Note it includes one that won't get near us until 2880.

Space really is remarkably empty.
