Extraordinary comments just now from Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) who tells us Mattis words were true, honest, necessary and overdue. Says shes struggling with the question of whether to support Trump in 2020.
Perhaps we're getting to the point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally, and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up, Murkowski tells us.

(11,404 posts)ANY movement or sign of life from across the aisle. And thus Murkowski, Mattias, Romney are more than welcome. At the same time .. I think it's perfectly valid to point out that "it needed to come to this ..?" There was nothing in Mueller, in Comey, in Ukraine, in Justice and intelligence purges, in Impeachment trials .. prior to this .. that created a light bulb moment?
So I think those that are playing a little heavy on the "Oh, Really?" sarcasm card .. also have every right. Show me where Sen. Murkowski really differs in any substantive way from Graham or Sessions. And assure me that all three won't be dutifully hauling water for the same man a month from now.

If she is making statements against trump, that is a good thing. It doesn't mean I agree with her conservative politics, but brings division among the republicans

(82,849 posts)These fuckers are going to be dragged kicking and screaming into facing their complicity with this outlaw regime. You had your chance to do something about this back in February, Senator. You dropped the ball, and despite the warnings from millions of citizens of what was going to ensue when you and the rest of the Senate Republican caucus let Trump off the hook, you went ahead and voted for acquittal anyway. You've already declared your support for Trump in 2020.

In other words, she KNEW he was a gutless wonder and a pox on the nation, but was too chicken shit to honor her oath and say anything out loud.
What a profile in courage.

She has voted for Trump's Judicial nomimees. She can be conflicted all she wants to be. She voted NO to convict Trump in the Senate for his abuse of his office and how he is conducting himself even now.

If the patient has active tetanus, a doctor doesn't stand by the bedside and talk about how "troubling" the symptoms are. A doctor administers immunoglobulin and antibiotics and whatever other treatments are necessary.

No, Andrew, there is nothing "extraordinary" about this statement. It's the same noncommittal mush that Murkowski always dribbles out of both sides of her mouth and you fall for it repeatedly. There are people out there, right now, showing real courage. Putting their bodies on the line for what is right. But a U.S. Senator "struggling" with the question of whether to support a dictator is extraordinary?
She had a chance to act during impeachment and she FAILED. Got that? She ALREADY FAILED to protect the Constitution. I really don't give a good goddamn that she's now "struggling" when our democracy is on life support and the power just went out.
Either take a stand publicly, Lisa, or STFU and continue to be complicit.
