Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said Thursday that she agreed with former Defense Secretary James Mattis' criticism of President Trump, calling it "true and honest and necessary and overdue."
Why it matters: Murkowski, who has signaled her discomfort with the president in the past, also said that she's "struggling" with her support for him in November a rare full-on rebuke of Trump from a Senate Republican.
Murkowski has long been viewed as one of the most likely Republicans to break with Trump on policy issues, but she ultimately voted to move along his impeachment trial earlier this year without hearing from additional witnesses.
What she's saying: "[W]hen I saw Gen. Mattis' comments yesterday, I felt like perhaps we are getting to a point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up."
"He is our duly elected president. I will continue to work with him. I will continue to work with this administration, but I think right now as we are all struggling to find ways to express the words that need to be expressed appropriately. Questions about who Im going to vote for not going to vote for I think are distracting at the moment."

(65,042 posts)It would appear Fadel Allassan does not understand what a full on rebuke is.
"Struggling to support..." Is not one.
She will impress me when she flat out says she doesn't support the reelection of "it".

(3,131 posts)Faden Allassan who wrote that in the article is a full on idiot.
Struggling to support is not even a rebuke. She still support trump.

(31,823 posts)She voted against impeachment.
She's going to turn this around in a day. Trump will go after her or McConnell will offer her something.
Watch. She can't be trusted. She's no good. Her and the wimp up in Maine!

(10,828 posts)One word, Senator Murkowski: Impeachment
Had you and your Republican colleagues done the right thing with the impeachment vote, we'd be in a much better place as a country. But you decided not to do the true and honest and necessary thing, even though oversight and condemnation of the Trump Administration was long overdue.
But on this you're right: asking you about your vote come November is a distraction from the chaos, the constitutional conflict the leader of your party, the Republican Party, has willfully created. I have little interest in your vote in November because when you might have voted to do the right thing, you chose not to.
You were on the wrong side of history then; you're on the wrong side of history now. As is every Republican who enables this malignant buffoon.
So the next time you want to take a semi-swipe at James Mattis about being overdue on anything, I'd stare hard into the mirror. Even if it cracks.
