By rising to the moment and impeaching Trump, Democrats essentially defanged the election play book Republicans were assembling to use against Joe Biden. They fully intended to go on a major offensive with Ukraine related "scandals" against Joe Biden. They were stockpiling disinformation ammunition to proclaim that the "Russia thing was all a hoax: It was Ukraine that subverted our Democracy instead", yada yada. The impeachment of Donald Trump was a preemptive attack by Democrats that established the truth before Trump's full scale lie campaign could be rolled out.
Trump can still try to scream "Hunter Biden" but it's stale and outdated now, yesterday's sordid news. It no longer carries any punch, the entire topic of what happened in Ukraine is now interlaced with toxicity for Trump, because of the impeachment hearings and trial.
And one more thing. We now have the video clip that can launch a dozen Biden ads: Adam Schiff emphatically proclaiming to the U.S. Senate, regarding Donald Trump; "How much damage can he really do in the next several months until the election? A lot. A lot of damage,

They impeached him, as they should have. Got cockblocked by the Senate, but Trump will wear that impeachment for the rest of his life.
Also, as mentioned, it defanged all the Hunter Biden batshit the GOP was going to sling. The Tara Reade thing also fell apart.
But most importantly:
If Democrats didn't hold the House right now, if the GOP held both houses of Congress, Trump would be pushing through his Enabling Act right now.
