Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWhat would happen if trump's military fired live rounds into protesters?
Would Congress call emergency session? Nothing would be done by DOJ except covering and gaslighting. What would be the consequences? The firing on the peaceful protesters, clearing of St. John's... milley is just another trump lap dog, and a disgrace. No consequences for milley following trump's order to clear a path to St. John's, or maybe it was milley's order... Seriously, what would be the consequences of live rounds? As far as I can tell, there would be no consequences. Shadow force set loose in DC... There are calls for identification, if there is refusal to comply, then what? Nothing. I've never been more frightened for those out protesting.

(15,080 posts)It's all very frightening.
I'm more worried about Barr's personal Police Force without any insignias or badges.
I hope we don't find out.

(22,025 posts)There is no way the vast majority of Americans would accept American soldiers killing American civilians. None.
Further, do you think any soldier would obey an illegal order?!
Your scenario would make for a great movie-of-the-week. But it's not realistic.
Remember, there are far more nefarious ways for Trump's cadre to seize and maintain power...

(67,102 posts)It's really strange ... and with no identification. Maybe he's going to make them his special palace guards with special uniforms so he can brag about it to Kim and Putin. ... how much lower can it go.

(11,761 posts)If lawmakers can't force identification of trump's stormtroopers, then what? I don't know where this is heading, but it's so frightening. And yes, so low, but I don't ask 'What next?', or 'How low can they go?', anymore, because the next hour they'll crawl under the low bar and we're thrown into yet another surreal episode.

They already know many people live in shocking poverty in America.
They know abusive shit is happening here.
Someone could ask for intervention.

(11,761 posts)UN peacekeepers in DC? Now that would be a sight to really send trump into his bunker!

(1,919 posts)The US has permanent veto power on the Security Council. It cannot be overruled. The UN will never physically intervene in any of the 5 Permanent Security Council members affairs.

(11,761 posts)Do you think they would, or would it be up to each individual country's leader to make their own statements? I heard Trudeau's recent statement... Measured, but left no doubt Canada's condemnation.
DetroitLegalBeagle
(1,919 posts)I know the Permanent members can veto anything that comes up in the Security Council, but I don't think that power extends to the General Assembly. Likely because the General Assembly cannot pass anything binding on countries. Anything binding or in the realm of security or peacekeeping operations must go through the Security Council.

(12,463 posts)The world will step up and clean out the republican mess. Trump will have many countries ready to kick republican ass.
And he will have no place to hide and will be taken to the hague, and face real justice along with republicans that aid and abet him. They are not only threats to our country only btw.

(11,761 posts)Civil lawsuits, maybe? DOJ has basically declared an enemy of the state. I don't know if Congress has the power to do anything except meet and condemn his actions. Forget about coward GOP reps and sens condemning trump and his militia in DC, so it would be party lines. We saw Our military, park police, and whatever the heck those DOJ militia guys are, clearing Lafayette Park for trump's photo op, and then that coward milley scapegoating and blubbering... milley is there to do trump's bidding... No one tear gassed and fired 'non lethal weapons' on our US citizens without orders. It just all seems hopeless and incredibly frightening.
