(2,777 posts)A friend and I were pulled over one night for going out the entrance to a parking lot. The senior cop had a newbie rider with him and was acting like a complete asshole. It was totally unnecessary, unwarranted and belligerent as hell.
The newb cop kept trying to get me to step out of the passenger side of the car and I told him no, but gave ID. I think he was trying to get me out to get a PD charge as I had a few drinks in a bar, but not driving. The senior cop was yelling at my friend about how dangerous that was. They ended up letting us go!
It was an honest mistake as there was construction in the area and really fucking hard to tell what was in and out.
Not sure what their deal was, but felt the older cop was showing the newbie the ropes. This was also Florida so who knows.

(29,251 posts)He is the first Black chief the department has had & he has been making an effort to reform the MPD. The problem is, he is fighting a Bob Kroll, head of the police union, and his minions in the union.
Arrandondo came up through the ranks of the MPD and he (along with some other officers) sued it for discrimination. He knows who, where, and what the problems are and I think he'll get the chance to clean them out now.

and they will be targets there.
I have some sympathy for their plight. OTOH they could have called for backup on their radio and they could have tried to pull Chauvin off of Floyd.

(1,268 posts)You would think they would have also mentioned it in cop school, at least in passing.

Gray and Kueng's defense attorney, Tom Plunkett, asked the court for lower bail, saying their clients had been police officers for just four days when Floyd was killed. Police records indicate that while the men were rookies, they had more experience than a handful of days on the force. According to their records, they joined the department in February 2019 and became full officers in December. Minneapolis officers must serve a year on probation and spend time in field training with a more senior officer before they are fully qualified.
