Your grandfather did not fight FOR a flag,

He fought for the IDEALS that are represented by that flag.

It is not disrespectful to refuse to stand when the flag is flown while those ideals are applied with prejudiced!

No! The travesty is to fly that banner knowing full well it flies in hypocrisy!

A quote from an old friend of mine. Thought it was brilliant!

It is an excellent thought.
It's a piece of cloth. I don't need to respect any inanimate object. Nor does anybody else.

I asked a WWII veteran his opinion about burning the flag in protest. He replied that freedom of speech is more important than a piece of cloth. He also said that fire safety is important too, and that he may open a fire hose on a burn if it was getting out of control

And people seem to have a stronger affinity for the symbol than for the things the symbol represents. Those who seek flag burning laws, etc, are quite happy to see the ideals fade away. It's pretzel logic.

Saving the world from tyranny went out about 1946.

The flag today is used mostly to support creeping fascism.

Note my avatar.

This country needs to educate itself.

We are not the bright shinning beacon on the hill.

It is soul crushing when you know the truth.

Thanks so much for your post and knowledge.

They have no respect for those who died for it.
