The pH of the mouth is below the effective bleaching of color bodies on teeth.
The enzymes in saliva also will accelerate decomposition directly to molecular oxygen and salt, rather than radical oxygen & chlorine.
Now, there's some excess alkali in household bleach, but saliva buffers those a bit.
So, they're doing it but they won't get the yellow of their teeth. Makes them stupid twice, with one action!
