They'd probably be done in rep politics if outed. It was like how everybody knew Aaron Schock was gay when he was in office but he wasn't outed or didn't come out until after he got out of office.

I remember reading a blind item somewhere (CDAN?) around the time of the '16 elections. It was about an exclusive gay male escort meeting with an r politician (pol) in FL. This is going off memory but given that it was FL it may've been happened around the time of the previous rep convention in '12.

Basically it was - The escort showed up. The pol opened the door in a bathrobe. The escort went to touch or hug the pol, and the pol didn't like being touched. Pol wanted to sit on the bed and watch the escort pleasure himself.
