Why? Why destroy the birds?

Jeff Rabinowitz @rxjef77
US moves forward with plan to end wild bird protections:

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Trump administration moved forward Friday with plans to scale back a century-old law protecting most American wild bird species despite warnings that billions of birds could die as a result.

This is coming from Republicans and conservative activists, part of their crusade to eliminate any and all environmental regulations.

It's doubtful Trump even knew it existed until a donor lobbied him to get rid of it.

What's the purpose of scaling back the protections?
Does it give the Mango Menace a hard on?
Does he get his jollies from harming living creatures?

The obvious answer is YES!!!!!!!!

May this illegal Admin. be gone forever very soon and President Joe Biden starts to rebuild our nation's reputation with the rest of the world.

I am a huge lover of birds and this really pisses me off, on top of everything else this monster has wrought upon the American citizenry and the world.

Teddy Roosevelt likely was the inspiration for the law. It has been in place during some of the greatest periods of the country's history. There is no sane reason for changing it.

Republicans (which includes Trump).

This isn't something Trump cares about, so this push is coming from within the party and/or lobbyists.

ALL of them deserve the blame.

I'm sure they're behind a lot of this. And trump is more than willing to help them out, especially if they donate to his miserable campaign.

Does anyone think that trump has ever spent any time outdoors except on a golf course? Any appreciation of nature whatsoever?

I hope all the wildlife he is trying to destroy--and this country--survives till he's gone.

Trump Administration Advances Unprecedented Stripping of Protections for Wildlife
Migratory Bird Act Rollback Lets Destructive Industry Off-The-Hook

Text:

Washington, DC— Today as the country faces an uprising for racial justice and ongoing pandemic, the Trump administration’s Department of the Interior released its Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in efforts to strip critical protections in the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The move— one of the several environmental protection rollbacks in the last couple of months— comes on World Environment Day and after lawmakers, conservation organizations and community groups repeatedly called for the administration to halt major decisions and comment periods during the pandemic.

In response to the announcement, Kirin Kennedy, Deputy Legislative Director at the Sierra Club released the following statement:

“Today's announcement which drastically undermines the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is reprehensible. It is a disheartening reminder of how little attention the Trump administration is paying to the very real crises before us—from the masses in the streets demanding Black lives be valued to the rapidly-accelerating extinction and climate crises that threaten us all.

“This move paves the way for destructive industries to be let off-the-hook when their actions result in the deaths of endangered birds. The Trump administration must immediately stop plans to undo this vital safeguard”

Thanks for posting, Bigtree. Let's hope Sierra Club and others can take this issue to court and have it reversed.....

Here's an example of one:

"I am an Environmental Scientist with the California Department of Water Resources. Before that, I worked as a consulting biologist for three years and conducted countless hours of MBTA surveys and monitoring at construction sites. While I have mixed feelings about the nature of the MBTA, I vehemently condemn the recent interpretation by USFWS. Your agency's sole purpose is to protect our wild species, and anyone with a year's worth of Wildlife training understands that the MBTA has protected hundreds of bird species from extinction.

This landmark law has been protecting countless species for over 100 years, and I can guarantee no biologist with an ounce of integrity will respect this interpretation. All this change will do is make it easier for companies to enact environmental destruction and destroy active bird nests as they please. We will fight this interpretation as long as the corrupt administration seeks to save face with oil and development companies while littering our country with bird corpses.

We will not take this sitting down, and I call upon all USFWS members to respect the integrity and purpose of their organization. The new interpretation is wrong, and we all know it. Don't let one of our most important tools to protect wildlife fade away."
