The U.S. Senate last month unanimously passed a bill that would explicitly make lynching a federal crime. Not everyone, however, is pleased with passage of the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act.

Liberty Counsel, an evangelical nonprofit that opposes gay rights, and its chairman, Mat Staver, are taking issue with the bill’s inclusion of LGBTQ people.

I was talking with my daughter today. One of her friends is studying to be a minister. He is also getting his master's in social work. He is gay. My daughter said that her friend has been met with ignorance in his church, with people who do not think a gay man should be a minister. I told her that this is rooted more in their psychological problems than any sincere religious belief.
