12. Manip Of The Original Picture

I started with the original picture, copied sections of the sign's black background with "feathering" (basically, a fuzzy border that gradually gets more transparent at the edge), layered them over the letters while lining up the "grain" (the subtle horizontal stripe patterns), and repeated until all the original lettering was replaced with sign background. (Tip: Duplicate the layer with the original pic and work from the duplicate. I needed to go back to the original pic layer to copy Tweetolini's arm and paste it onto a top layer when part of it accidentally got deleted.)

I used Paint Shop Pro 2020 (currently on sale at $63.99). There are free software alternatives like GIMP and Paint.Net that have all the tools you'd need for something like this (though the user interfaces are clunkier IMO).

And it’s considerably less expensive than full-blown Photoshop. I’m not sure what it costs these days — I got my copy free with a printer.
