USA TODAY
Oprah Winfrey has announced plans to host a two-night special looking at the country's civil unrest following the death of George Floyd with "OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here?" on June 9 and 10.
The special will feature Winfrey speaking with black thought leaders, activists and artists on the country's direction.
"Ive been having private conversations with friends and thought leaders about whats next and where we go from here," Winfrey said in a release Thursday. "I thought it would be both of interest and service to bring their ideas, concerns and comments into a national spotlight."
Guests will include politician Stacey Abrams, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, director Ava DuVernay, "Selma" actor David Oyelowo, Color of Change founder Rashad Robinson; and NAACP national board member Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.

I don't like either doctor, and she probably doesn't now either. Whatever.
I think this is a public service she's providing so I am ok with it.

(25,979 posts)interviewed and supported people I don't care for at all, this is not one of those times.
Oprah is well known and well liked by so many diverse people, including a lot of sheltered white women and men. If this reaches them long enough to get them to listen, if Oprah brings her A game to the interviews, asks the right questions and then shuts up to let people talk, a lot of good information is going to reach those who really need to be exposed to it.
Stacey Abrams and Keisha Lance Bottoms alone have so much to say, and I want to hear it. I'm hoping Oprah may bring in those who might not show up otherwise, and they can hear it too.
I reserve judgement until after the programs air.
