The barrier isnt around the park - it is at an intersection across from the park near the SPD precinct. Protestors were gassed and flash banged a little while ago but have regrouped. There are live-streams available if you scroll through #seattleprotests on twitter. Protests have been there everyday and non violent. (My son is there)

From the news of the crap that the police are pulling in Seattle I must have missed the news about Washington state flipping from blue to red.
