I think we should stop calling it 'tear gas'.

That makes it sound like 'a gas that makes you cry. That's what the libtards are complaining about now!'

Anyone who has served in the military, and was exposed to CS-Gas in Basic Training, will tell you that it's not so much 'tear gas' as it is 'Water gushing from my eyes, snot gushing from my nose, drool gushing from my mouth, oh my GOD, my FACE is on FIRE!' gas.

It is overpowering if you get it in concentration as stated. Plus, if you are sweating and your skin pores are open it is a burning sensation on any skin it can get to. Plus, it stays active especially in the presence of moisture like in your nasal membranes and sweaty skin for up to a day if not flushed away. Just a hint of it will give you watering eyes and a tickle in your throat you can't clear even with drinking water. Yes, if people are being peaceful, lets not gas them.

7. It sucks, but honestly "gas" seems a little exaggerated too. Most concentrations of tear gas

used by police, and used outside, is not nearly as caustic as the "gas chambers" used for military training.

There are better methods of crowd control, but there are also some much worse ones that many police departments can deploy such as Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRAD) and heat rays, not to mention real bullets, clubs to the head, etc.

Fortunately, I haven't seen a lot of tear gas used in the past few days of demonstrations.

12. I thought about that; about how the gas in the chamber is concentrated, not thinned

and diffused by the open air, as in the case of police gassing protestors.

It's still a bit much; definitely overkill.

I remember the day we were marched out to the gas chamber during Basic Training. As we came within about thirty feet of the structure, a bunch of us, including me, started feeling a burning sensation on our skin, and a horrible burning in our nasal passages and the backs of our throats. We started coughing, doubled over, and we realized what we were going to be in for in just a few minutes, after the safety briefing and the protective mask ritual.

We had just gotten only a little whiff of the gas that leaked out of the chamber when the previous unit exited the building, coughing, choking, and waving their arms. I got this horrible sinking feeling about how it was going to be when I got the stuff full-force.

11. Except it's NOT banned for use against us.

It's only banned for use against the enemy during a war.

18. Yes, but that's the point of using that phrasing - that aspect will always come up.

It should be hammered into the public's heads.

13. And it gives the "clip versus magazine" people another chance to derail the conversation.

It should start and stop with: He's gassing his own people.

16. Yeah, nothing is more emblematic of the sheer monstrous inhumanity of such people

as when, after reading a news report about dozens of people being murdered with a high-capacity, rapid-fire weapon, their takeaway is "The reporter said 'clip' instead of 'magazine'. That invalidates the entire news story."

Outrage over nomenclature - boundless.

Outrage over murdered people - non-existent.
