These were posted on Facebook and he says:
I purposely leaned heavily into a comic book style with these tributes. Comics are dismissed by many as childish foolishness. Though for those of us that love them, comic books, and superheroes, in particular, are a uniquely American style of myth-making. For many of us Black nerds, Marvels characters are very relatable: they are often hated and hunted by the powers that be. They are aliens, or born different, or have to deal with harsh cards dealt to them. They are feared, despised, shunned, and misunderstood. There isnt a more American form of portraiture than black comic ink over white to honor those that faced this nations fear and loathing of the Black body.
