Here is the attack description of capsaicin gasses on the body
The European Parliament Scientific and Technological Options Assessment (STOA) published in 1998 "An Appraisal of Technologies of Political Control"[10] with extensive information on pepper spray and tear gas. They write:
The effects of pepper spray are far more severe, including temporary blindness which lasts from 1530 minutes, a burning sensation of the skin which lasts from 45 to 60 minutes, upper body spasms which force a person to bend forward and uncontrollable coughing making it difficult to breathe or speak for between 3 and 15 minutes.
This is how CS ("tear gas" supposedly) works.
and in turn, make people unable to function, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains.
Tear gases are considered lachrymator substances, meaning they cause a tearing effect of the eyes, and often times other uncomfortable symptoms. The most common types are Agent CS (chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile) and Agent CN (chloroacetophenone), although there are other compounds considered to be tear gases as well. Often grouped with tear gas is Agent OC (oleoresin capsicum), or pepper spray, or its synthetic form known as PAVA spray, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Agent OC and PAVA work on pain and temperature receptors in your body to incite a pain response, ACLU explains. Even small amounts can penetrate your skin and enter mucus membranes to cause severe and drawn-out pain that may last a half hour. Tear gas chemical compounds, like OC, dissolve and become a painful acidic liquid when they come into contact with water, sweat, or oil on a persons skin or mucus membranes, the ACLU says. The moisture in the respiratory tract and mucus membranes makes these areas especially sensitive to these agents.
In other words, they both are lachrymatory, they both trigger pain receptors on contact with non-epidermal tissues, they both have the potential for long term effects.
And the immediate dissociation of pepper gasses make them harsher, short term than CS or CN.
Billy, you used a chemical agent on U.S. citizens who were just standing there. And, you idiotic parsing of words proves your stupidity because OC is, in fact, a chemical agent!

He knows nothing. I'm an expert in organic chemistry. I win.

(65,013 posts)...it took me 15 seconds to find those 2 snips.
Both suggest capsaicin gasses are worse than CN/CS, and I wasn't even looking for that.
I was just looking for one cite each that show they all work the same way.
I got bonus info!

(9,426 posts)get close enough to get sprayed himself. Hypocrite. Supposed to be religious, yet condones torture for others. Fake Christian. Fits in well with this disaster of an administration.

Of course the fux mouthpiece declined to test out the waterboard.
And bilious barr will say that these measures aren't for people like his opus-dei elevated self.

(65,013 posts)...we need to make sure it's OC. You know, not "tear gas" or a "chemical agent" but worse!

Great post, nicely sourced.
(Kudos from one physical scientist to another.)

(65,013 posts)I'm retired now, but after graduating at 19, going right to work & grad school for 4 years, then working 38 more I did my piece. Well I did go back at company request to get an MBA they paid for. That was the 90s.
So, does that make me an ex-scientist, or am I a scientist emeritus?
Have a good evening!
