A Karen is someone who exploits their privilege to belittle someone else, often (but not always) in a racist way.

Try not to be offended by it. Obviously someone named Karen might not fit that description AT ALL. In fact, I know a couple of wonderful women named Karen. It is just a label that has grown to mean what it does.

Just like someone named Dick may not fit the Webster's definition of "a mean, stupid, or annoying man" and folks named Dick shouldn't take offense someone it is said that someone is being a Dick.

(and they meant racist), you know what I would think.. that is their name... sometimes, especially in such important times as these.. it is good to stick to calling something it is so people understand exactly what it is.. that woman was a racist and should be called out for being that..

I think the woman in the OP's video is a complete jerk. I just don't think using the term "Karen" is helpful. Would you rather no one said anything and people just kept doing it? It's off-putting and on the juvenile side of snarky. I occasionally stray into that territory myself, and I appreciate it when people point it out.

From a practical standpoint of defeating the enemy, we're better off not alienating people who are named Karen (super common name) or the people who like and love someone with that name. It's jarring if you have a Karen in your life to see the name blithely ridiculed. If that factor shaves a fraction of a percent off our voting tally, that could end up being a big deal.

After racial violence in the U.S., writer Karen Attiah re-examines the 'Karen' meme

The ‘Karen’ memes and jokes aren’t sexist or racist. Let a Karen explain.

As a millennial black Karen, and a child of immigrants, I find the brouhaha hilarious and twisted. “Karen” is not and will never be an oppressive slur. Anyone who disagrees can take it up with my manag … — I mean, with history...

And to invent oppression when none is happening to you? Well, as a Karen, I just have to say — that is peak Karen behavior.

When you get in people's faces and act like a racist piece of shit, and act all entitled like that, THAT's when you get called a Karen. It's not just because she's a woman or has a bob cut, it's because she's being a massive jerk and trying to throw her weight around.

It's based on behavior, not membership in an ethnic/gender/racial group, therefore Karen is not a slur.

This harridan was trying to bark orders at total strangers. I would have flipped out and got in her face if she tried that with me.

She should consider herself lucky that Latina woman only gave her a love tap. A lot of people would respond to such shitty behavior with a right hook.
