A 23-year-old Virginia man who appeared to be planning an incel bomb attack on "hot cheerleaders" accidentally blew off his hand with explosives, authorities say.
Cole Carini was charged in federal court on Friday connection with the plot after he allegedly lied to FBI agents by saying his extensive injuries were the result of a lawnmower accident.

In a nearby shed, authorities found a crumpled letter that discussed a suicide bomber walking through a shopping mall while concealing "deadly objects" to target a "stage of hot cheerleaders."
Elliot Rodger, who killed six people and himself in a 2014 attack in Santa Barbara, left behind a manifesto that is frequently cited by incels, or so-called involuntary celibate males who target women.

(4,122 posts)Or maybe not. When will these boys realize they must first make something of themselves before they are considered attractive by the opposite sex?
That seemed so apparent in my youth.

I actually taught the physical chemistry, kinetics, and decomposition mechanisms of detonation, and I would think it a bad idea to make explosives in my garage. And I really know what I'm doing.
This guy is disturbed, but he's also very stupid.

(2,334 posts)He looks remarkably calm for someone who's just blown their hands off. Perhaps he's just incredibly stupid, no room for pain because his brain is working on standing.

I hope incels or even shy people see this, this is about me personally.
I didn't have the incel mindset, but I was a shy nerd in high school, and there were cheerleaders of course. One of them got injured outside of school one day, not severely, but enough to take her to the hospital. My mother worked at that hospital she went to, she asked her what school she went to, she said mine, my mother said "Oh you know (ck4829)?", and she replied yes (We did have some classes together) and then my mother said it MIGHT have been because of the painkillers she took but also maybe not, she said "He's kinda cute and he's really nice, we'd make a good couple"
At that point I felt that it wouldn't be right to approach her as she said that in a compromised state and I got my first girlfriend a little later after that, it was a huge confidence booster for someone who did not feel attractive though. Women may like you but you're never going to know if you just expect them to walk up and straddle you without any interaction before.

(58,785 posts)At 23, he goes to prison. And also, he won't be further blowing or burning up his mother's home, or his mother. She said she hopes he'll now get the help he needs. I wish he was less severely injured for his mother's sake, I confess more than for his own.
I once knew a woman who was afraid of her own mentally ill son (adopted), who'd threatened to kill her. Her husband had died by the time he reached his teens. She couldn't control him, tried all means of getting professional help, threw him out a couple times with police assistance, but took him back when he returned to her in trouble because...she was his mother. Her entire life was ruled by the trauma and helplessness.
