1. Maybe Romney is being prepped to replace Trump as the GOP candidate...

Wouldn't surprise me. Desperate times call for desperate measures for the GOP, and if there were any rules prohibiting that, we know they'll conveniently find a way around them.

I was wondering if the RNC will follow through and nominate ashhole45 after all this. William Weld is still holding out hope for that I think. It may end up with Weld and Romney battling it out at the convention.

8. there is no way they will ditch Trump this year as their nominee

The republican base is still largely behind Trump. There would be a revolt if they change their nominee. That would be more disastrous for the republican party than losing with Trump. It will backfire and lose them votes on the local level as well. Only way the republican base would be fine with another nominee is for Trump to step down due to health issue.

9. That would be tough; so many GOP senators have stuck their heads so far up Trump's ass

that there's no way to pull them out without humiliating themselves. They would be reminded every day in Dem TV ads of their relentless kissing of His Lardship's fat orange ass for the past three years.

2. He wants to dance on both sides of the aisle

He's wishy-washy to me. In these days though, you can't have it both ways.

Besides, he's a Tax Cut and Starve the Old and Poor type of Republican. Which is not in our best interest.

Would not mind if he changed sides with four other Rs, though!

6. Being serious about BLM

doesn't make him a Dem. I get the point about stopping Trump but it's also important to achieve that ideological change so that wanting to fight mistreatment and racism isn't something that divides the parties. How many other Repubs do the same? It would be easier to find political solutions if both parties worked towards that common goal which should be a no brainer.

10. Romney's career would be done the second he does that

We, the dem, will welcome him now to defeat Trump. But no dem would take Romney seriously so he has no future in our party, not to mention none of his values matches ours. The republicans will see him as a traitor (rightfully so) and hurt their party. So Romney would be left on no men land where he isn't welcome both at the democratic side nor the republican side. This will never happen.

He is just positioning himself as a never Trumper republican so when Trump is soundly defeated and the republican base desert him, Romney can come in and act as the new leader to lead the republicans back to the pre-Trump era. He isn't going to be a democrat nor does he want to.

He just needs to publicly stand up to Moscow Mitch - refuse to confirm any more of MM's nominees until he moves on the House legislation, including Covid-19 measures.
