Attorney General William Barr on Sunday sought to rewrite the narrative surrounding President Donald Trumps controversial decision to walk across Lafayette Square on Monday to briefly hold a photo-op at St. Johns Church.
In a testy interview on CBSs Face The Nation (video embedded below), Barr said the common view that peaceful protesters were moved for the photo-op was one of several big lies appearing in the media.
Asked if anything should have been done differently, Barr said he saw no obvious problems with the operation.
Sometimes you have to move peaceful demonstrators for a short distance in order to accomplish public safety, and thats what was done here, Barr said. You have qualified [law] enforcement officials with shields, moving slowing. They had mounted officers moving slowly.
