3. It's a sick culture. They bring the chaos and then claim

they are the only ones standing between society and chaos.

Trumps claims "I alone" can fix it. It being whatever group he defines as the enemy. Whatever law or regulation that stands between him and getting his way or benefits those he panders to - those willing to stroke his ego and play along with his delusions.

Trump must feel in control. Even if it is all a lie. The appearance is what matters. The appearance, the surface, can look like reality to the people willing to buy into the appearance - especially when it benefits them in some way.

If you push back on Trump he will close ranks and go into revenge mode.

The police have the same mindset. They alone. Only them. You will repect their authority. Or else. They keep you safe, so obey them no matter what - even as they murder people with impunity. They tell themselves their actions, no matter how abusive, serve the greater good.

That we need them no matter what they do, so suck it up.
Accept whatever narrative they supply and shut the fuck up.

It's the exact same authoritarian world view. Neither want challenges to what they both see as their authority. Their right.

It's no wonder police organizations turn to Trump or that Trump encourages the worst in them. Trump wants them as a strongarm and they want someone who will indemnify their reckless and dangerous behavior.

That authoritarian mindset really bothers me. Each close encounter with the police makes me want to say “Sorry about your little dick.” Even when I hear “Good morning, sir.” in response to my “g’morning” on the trail, I instantly tense up.

6. I can't help it. I watch them with a wary eye.

And I've had both negative and more privileged than positive experiences with the police.

Still, my first response is to be wary. The privilege served only to reinforce the negative, if that makes sense.

Favorable treatment made the negative that more glaring. More obvious of intent.

9. It makes a difference. A community will view the police

as beneficial or as a problem depending on how the people are treated.
