It was self inflicted so really it was a statue suicide. The people nearby were just doing their jobs to protect and serve.

Susan Collins reported to be Deeply Disturbed; Doctors standing by, lest she become Profoundly Disappointed.

Look, I’d need to see the video of what happened before the incident, but I heard the statue was told to move because of the curfew and refused, so there’s that...

Over the past couple of years when DUers post a BOROWITZ title in the subject line without attribution there, some preposterous premise about SHITLER, something too good to be true, I've gotten to be able to spot BOROWITZ before opening the O.P.

Lately, I've fallen for the trap, not spotting BOROWITZ a couple of times.

This O.P. title is the first time I thought it was BOROWITZ when it wasn't.

last paragraph:

Now is not the time for those who for so long defended the indefensible to contort themselves into some new, supposedly moral stance, or play the victim. Their strategy of heel-dragging and obfuscation was predicated on one fundamental assumption: that what happened on Sunday would never happen. They were confident that black people and brown people who call Bristol their home would forever tolerate living under the shadow of a man who traded in human flesh, that the power to decide whether Colston stood or fell lay in their hands. They were wrong on every level. Whatever is said over the next few days, this was not an attack on history. This is history. It is one of those rare historic moments whose arrival means things can never go back to how they were.

And I must say that the photo in the OP is just beyond amazing. One for the history books.
