It is a German film about Hitler's last days in the bunker, when it finally becomes apparent that they have lost the war and that the Russians have them surrounded.

It's funny because I am in the middle of watching it right now. I started it last night and will probably finish it tonight. The acting is excellent. I am streaming through Amazon. If you have Amazon Prime, it's free, but even if you don't you could probably rent for a few days for $3.99 or so. It's two and a half hours long, but never drags. At least not so far.

The amazing thing is that there were so many aspects to his personality that reminded me of Trump. Bruno Ganz is the German actor who plays Hitler and he is scary good in this.

Hitler was in such atrocious health toward the end, that he looked much older than he was. Ganz's performance was astonishing.

And not just during the final scenes. Celebrated actors for decades have chewed the scenery to shreds playing 'angry Hitler'. Few have done as well as Ganz playing the courtly, bourgeois Hitler that most people who knew him early on talked about.

evil, dictatorial side of him, but also the vulnerable, mentally and physically deteriorating, drug addled, confused and even gentler side of him as well. His interpretation of the charachter was really one of the most well-rounded I have ever seen.

From what I have read about Trump, it sounds like that is exactly how he gets when he goes into one of his rages behind closed doors.

I just started watching this movie last night and if you have never seen it, I would highly recommend it. Very well done and the acting is excellent. However, just a warning. There are many parallels that you will notice between Hitler and Trump and in this film, Hitler is at the very end - he has lost, his whole world has collapsed and there is no way out for him. Trump isn't quite at this stage yet, but I suspect he is not that far away.

The film shows Hitler's final descent into complete madness. If he is going down, everyone is going down with him. In his mind, he didn't fail, his military failed. His officers failed and betrayed him, the German people failed and betrayed him and for that, they all deserve to die with him. He wants the country destroyed and everything burnt to the ground. Without him, Germany is nothing.

What is so frightening is that you can easily see how Trump could end up this way under the right set of circumstances. If Trump is going to be taken down or taken out, he will make sure that as many people suffer as possible.
