Gugino's out of the ICU but still hospitalized.
His lawyers tell @NicoleSganga no one from law enforcement said he's anything other than a peaceful protester so "we are at a loss to understand why" the President "would make such dark, dangerous, & untrue accusations against him"

What else will it take?

This is reprehensible and I'm glad he's getting called on it--finally!--by CNN, at least.

(43,189 posts)...when it comes to Trump's behavior.
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/not-a-sincere-christian-catholic-archdiocese-protests-trump-in-front-of-the-white-house
Washington, D.C. Catholic activists gathered Monday nearby the White House to protest the death of George Floyd in an event sponsored by Washington Archbishop Wilton Gregory.
Priests, nuns, and laypeople joined an already vocal contingent of people speaking out against police brutality, as well as those opposed to President Trumps use of religious imagery in his attempts to quell civil unrest. The protest was described in an email sent out by the archdiocese as a call to rededicate ourselves to the defense of all life and recommit ourselves to pray for an end to racism.

The comparison of the Trump administration to the biblical Roman soldiers marked the political overtones of the rally. Of the about 200 priests and nuns, dressed in clerical garb, who showed up, many carried politically charged signs. One Dominican sister held a sign reading, I repent of my racism. A Franciscan brother lifted a crucifix aloft, while a man walking behind him raised two messages, one reading Trump mocks Christ, the other saying, Barr is complicit.
Peter Daly, a priest in the archdiocese, chuckled when he saw the sign referring to Barr. Daly, who said hes been to five protests in Lafayette Park, pointed to the White House and declared Trump a moral scandal, who has enthralled conservative Christians with empty promises on rolling back abortion availability.
Hes not a sincere Christian, Daly said. He hasnt been to church in his whole adult life.

I was just wondering, since he's just slandered a private citizen.

(82,849 posts)The weaselspeak in his tweet doesn't say anything directly about Mr. Gugino, just a lot of "appears to" and "just asking questions" kind of dodges. The practiced rumormonger is always careful to include the weasel words to avoid just that eventuality.

Without legal consequences for deliberately misleading the American people, these sources will continue to pollute our political discussions and mislead those who believe they are reliable because of their stature.
I wonder, sometimes, what Thomas Jefferson would make of all of this.

(8,965 posts)coupled with a whopper of a law-of-physics-nullifier such as "he fell harder than he was pushed" (by two cops not really pushing all-that-hard, y'know), one could conclude that there is serious fakery going on by someone who values brute force over the well-being of citizens he swore to protect.

(10,836 posts)The Archbishop in DC called Trump out for his ugly behavior. Pope Francis has had a few choice words with Trump trying to slap back. Catholics in general do not perceive the man as anything close to an actual Christian. That photo-op at St John's and subsequent visit to John Paul II National Shrine was the final nail in the coffin.
The Trump's are soulless willing to use religious backdrops for their own ugly purposes.
White Catholics voted for Trump in 2016 by a 23 pt margin (60-37%). He'll lose that advantage in 2020.
Keep digging that hole, Donnie. Atta boy!

(36,860 posts)Trump and his Christians/evangelicals have a symbiosis.
Religion and politics use each other to gain power and wealth.
Political Christians rather than Christians of faith.
