The Daily Dread - Tracking the spread, 6/9/20

All times Pacific, source: Johns Hopkins/NBC News

I started with a look back - to Saturday's (6/6/20) numbers, then yesterday's (Monday, 6/8/20). There were no numbers available Sunday, 6/7/20, at least while I was able to watch and make note:

Here's where we were on Saturday, June 6th -
At 8:34am
Confirmed cases worldwide - 6,748,150
Deaths worldwide - 395,604
Confirmed cases US - 1,908,052
Deaths US - 109,764

That's the only reading I saw that day.

Compare:

Yesterday, June 8th -
At 12:02pm - domestic data
Confirmed cases US - 1,957,419
Deaths US - 111,279
AND
Deaths worldwide - 403,369

TODAY, June 9th -
At 2:50pm - domestic data, again
Confirmed cases US - 1,979,463
Deaths US - 112,234

What's also valuable here is the rate of increase in the amount of time. Roughly a thousand more deaths between yesterday early afternoon and mid-afternoon today, according to this. In a time frame of slightly more than 24 hours. And more than twenty-thousand additional cases in that time frame.

Too many places have had big gatherings. Too many people acting as if it's all over.

Without test, trace, and isolate, we will never know where it's going to break out again. We can't get ahead of it by wishful thinking.

...what's worse, is that even though we are seeing spikes begin again, people are going to REALLY freak out if there's any more quarantine... it's gonna get really ugly here as the protests also feed the spike too

And the conventional wisdom is - it takes roughly 14 days to manifest a spread of the virus. So two weeks after each of these days of crowds - YIKES!
