By JEFF PEGUES CBS NEWS June 9, 2020, 7:01 PM
As mourners in Houston honor the life of George Floyd in Minneapolis, CBS News is learning new details from a nightclub coworker about the history between Floyd and Derek Chauvin, the former officer who is charged in Floyd's death. Not only did they know each other, but a former coworker says they had a history of friction.
Floyd and Chauvin both worked security at a nightclub at the same time. Coworker David Pinney said the two men had a history.
"They bumped heads," Pinney said.
"How?" CBS News asked.
"It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue," Pinney explained.
<snip>
"Do you think Derek had a problem with black people?" CBS News asked.
"I think he was afraid and intimidated," Santamaria said.
"By black folks?" CBS News clarified.
"Yeah," Santamaria confirmed.

(51,104 posts)Chauvin is the bad guy. This was personal. It's got nothing to do with racism or training.
Just wait for it.

(65,042 posts)So, you maintained the employ of a guy willing to kill over a grudge, MPD?
And;
What about the other 3 cops?
Nevilledog
(51,104 posts)And they'll say what they always do.... All the other complaints were investigated and appropriate action, if any, was taken. We never could have anticipated this behavior.
We know the other two he was the FTO for are already pointing at Chauvin as the bad guy, and they're just rookies....blah blah blah
Tou Thao, the 4th cop, is a wild card.
I wanna hear the radio traffic and find out if Floyd's name was broadcast to Chauvin before he responded to the scene.

(65,042 posts)I was just suggesting there are easy to use counters to prevent them from winning the argument by using what you predict they'll use.
I knew you weren't agreeing with them.

(51,104 posts)No one is ever willing to accept responsibility for the bad actors. If departments punish, unions gets it overturned.
Example: there was a dirty detective with the local sheriff's department. They were running an investigation on a massage parlor. This detective was undercover posing as a client. He ended up getting 4 happy endings. He was originally fired, appealed, got 8 hrs unpaid suspension (2 hrs per hand/blow job), appealed. Reinstated with no punishment.

In any event, I've reached the conclusion that union busting is going to be one of the most necessary steps in ending systemic problems with brutality and racism.
Nevilledog
(51,104 posts)They're not unions in the traditional sense. They're thugs representing dangerous people. They have us over a barrel. We don't like what they do? Fine, they'll strike and let crime go unchecked. They only have to threaten it. What politician wants to deal with the outcry of no police to protect the good citizens?
Police necessity in their present militarized form is a fucking joke.

We need to put our best minds on the problem, and figure out how to get our country out from under the knee of these criminal organizations.

(16,829 posts)If Chauvin had a longstanding grudge against Floyd, maybe he took advantage of the arrest opportunity to kill him. i.e., 1st degree, premeditated murder.

(90,683 posts)Chauvin is a stone-cold killer. And based on that story from the white woman who encountered him about 15 years ago, he is also a stone-cold sadistic bastard.
I'll bet his soon to be ex wife could tell some tales if she wasn't too scared to speak. Someone will go his bail -- I hope she is long gone out of that house before he comes home to await his trial.

(113,303 posts)kind of history. There was so much satisfaction in the murderer's attitude, even knowing that he was being filmed.

(114 posts)Every since I found out that they worked together, I knew this murder personal! He intended to kill that man and the way in looked into that camera, he knew he was killing him and felt he would get away with it! I believe his arrogance and because he had gotten away with brutality time and time again, said to me that nothing would be done to him!!
