How does this sound - - - "Fair Funding" ?

Instead of "Defund the Police", as a slogan or partial slogan

It's short, sweet, and rolls off the tongue easily.

Fair Funding could be used in conjunction with many different areas of funding needs...
Education, Public Health, Housing, etc. in addition to Policing and Law Enforcement.

I also like "Reinvent the Police" as suggested in another thread.

Just a thought...

1. Sounds too much like it's about money

Focus should be on reimagining what we want and need from the role of the police, and what our relationship should look like.

Funding is part of it, I guess, but I think reinventing it comes first. Otherwise you have no idea what funding is required.

10. It definitely is about more than money. My hope was to change the emphasis

on the 'DEFUND The Police' terminology. While I agree with your suggestion that the entire role of the police and our desired relationship with them needs to be examined, that is a lengthier process than the time we have available now. Maybe in Jan. 2021...

Thank you for your thoughts.

3. #1. Choose the most marketable catch phrase. #2. Implement the best policy.

The best catch phrase is one that appeals to the most swing voters, like "demilitarize the police" and "root out bad cops." The best policies are the ones that have been tried and are shown to be effective in reducing crime, discrimination, and brutality. These policies would probably include reallocating funds towards mental health and education.

4. Is it really just a matter of find the right amount of money to give to the police?

And if they get that perfect amount (not too little, not too much), they will suddenly stop shooting and stomping people?

FWIW, I think this whole exercise of defunding is a distraction.

The issue we have is Police brutality, not Police Budgets.

8. I like what you said about getting just 'the right amount' of money

not being the solution to the problem. If only there was a specific dollar amount, we could pay it and be done. But of course it is far more complex than that.

My "Fair Funding" phrase was in response to the "Defund the Police" slogan which helps us lose the battle.

I wanted to de-fang the 'DEFUND' phrase.

5. Nope. Let's stick with police reform. Why are we reinventing the wheel?

We already have a phrase. Yeah, it's a little awkward and may not be 100% grammatically correct, but everyone is familiar with it.

7. And for good reason. Cops are killing folks with impunity

so the term fits. When they get their collective acts together, maybe we can move forward with nicer terms.
