(23,825 posts)Defunding means to refund social services for the poor so police aren't needed as much.

(11,885 posts)Trump and the GOP are backing racist, violent, and corrupt bad police forces that serves trump , not the people they are suppose to serve. If trump is given absolute power , we will have bad cops enforcing trump justice, like Hitlers Gustopo . The Supreme Court justices should remember that before they give him that power.

(4,519 posts)Defunding may not be the best term to use. Re-allocating some funding into programs that will add skills and provide meaningful jobs, rather than the proliferation of street gangs, has helped a town in New Jersey (I think) reduce their crime rate substantially. When people hear defunding I believe they equate it with abandoning the police force, which is absurd.

(17,965 posts)disbanding because hes a con man, so that defunding phrase should be abandoned fast.
Biden had the right idea to make it about honor and decency. No one can be against that.
Then set up reforms and accountability based on measurable standards (I havent read Bidens proposal yet), but that seems to be the best way. Calling it defunding is way too easily manipulated.

I think we need to restructure the police, just as businesses "restructure."
That means laying people off, sometimes disbanding entire departments.
There are police departments in the U.S.A. that are Fucked Up Beyond All Repair.
They need to be flushed.
