To lie well, one must meet the demands of verisimilitude, so that the lie can be believed without insult to one's intelligence.

This sort of thing is a sorting device, an occasion for proof of loyalty, to give people an opportunity to demonstrate they will own as true anything their leader says. For this purpose, the statement must be outrageous and obviously false, and the longer the process continues, the more outrageous and obviously false each succeeding statement must be.

with more functioning synapses than a squirrel's could believe any of them, but that's been true of Trump's press secretaries' lies from the beginning. At least Sean Spicer occasionally looked uncomfortable - the magnitude of the lie could be gauged by how angry he seemed while telling it. Outraged halibut SHS was perpetually belligerent, but that affect seemed to arise from indignation that reporters had the nerve to doubt and question her. In the case of soul-deprived spokesBarbie McEnemy, however, the most outrageous lies flow trippingly on her forked tongue while her dead eyes never blink at all.

4. Oh my God Trump is watching OANN

So a 75 year old man in Buffalo had a secret scanner with which he could later
track and attack Buffalo policeman?

I had no idea that OANN and Russia's disinformation campaign is one in the same.

But none of this was enough, apparently. Not enough subservience, not enough uncut racism. The president is diversifying his information stream to include a television channel that makes Fox News look like PBS NewsHour. The leader of the free world, we regret to report, is watching One America News Network. In fact, he has been for some time.

snip

You may remember OANN from their various White House stunts, which often seem to be pre-coordinated with the president. One reporter from this distinguished news service attempted to defuse concerns about calling the novel coronavirus "the China virus" by asking the president if the term "Chinese food" is racist. Apparently, this was supposed to be clever. Notice in that clip how Trump spells out the OANN name for anyone who might be interested in tuning in for more of this. Symbiosis! In some cases, the president cannot help completely telegraphing that he's instructed the OANN plant to ask him about something, because while he can do reality-show improv, the president is no good with fully scripted TV.

Matt Gertz of MediaMatters dug up the segment the president subjected himself—and then the world—to this morning. It might be best described as radioactive dog shit. While it may seem like the script has been fed into an early-2000s iMac reading program—"I do. Not know. What I am reading."—it is apparently the voice of "Kristian Rouz, a Russian national also on the payroll of the Kremlin’s official propaganda outlet, Sputnik." Here's part one, if you can stomach it.

snip

This is the toxic brew in which the president's brain has been fermenting for years now. It's the brew he would dip the whole nation in, given the chance, and there are plenty out there who still listen to him, who will follow him deeper into the abyss. But the gears of history are truly in motion now, and events have moved beyond his ability to control. He can feel his grip loosening, but he will use the strength he has left to wield these false realities as both sword and shield. His desperation will mean peril for us all, until he is removed from any position of power and authority and left to watch cable news all day with the other angry, paranoid shut-ins.

That instead of "asking" legitimate questions(and yes, there are legitimate questions), he just goes full alt-right conspiracy nonsense.

And now for the press: When such stupid comments are made about "a report he saw", MAKE HER state what the source is. Otherwise, it just sounds legitimate. Good grief. Follow-up questions, people, follow-up!

Don't think I didn't catch the obvious victim-blaming dogwhistle in your post.

There are literally no legitimate questions to ask about the assault and attempted murder on Martin.
