(1,384 posts)In an ad released by a super PAC affiliated with Emilys List, ordinary Americans are asked to read Trumps statements. Many refuse, although they later show the cards with the quotes to the camera. This is an effective way of demonstrating how objectionable Trumps statements may be to certain voters, but it also allows the ad makers to show one provocative quote laziness is a trait in blacks for which there is no actual recording; it is a secondhand quote attributed to Trump by a former employee.
Still, Trump has made other remarks, in public, that could be considered racially insensitive. In 1989, he told Bryant Gumbel in an interview: A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market.
If I was starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I really do believe they have the actual advantage today.

(10,167 posts)He was smoldering at Brian Williams the rest of the segment. Everything Trump said in the clip was hard core racist propaganda. Like Michael Steele said, "not just an educated black man, but a "well" educated black man."
I'm 71 (white) and have been listening to this racist shit my entire life, as had Michael Steele.

(205,074 posts)We take a look back to some controversial comments from Trump on race from 1989, and Michael Steele reacts to what - if anything - has changed in how the president views this issue. Aired on 6/9/2020.
