'Blood in the water': Dems get unexpected opening against Trump in Iowa

Politico

Iowa, once a model swing state, fell so hard for Donald Trump four years ago that 2020 seemed like a foregone conclusion.

But in a sign of how Trump’s reelection prospects have weakened across the country, even the heartland may be having second thoughts.

Since the start of the year, Democrats in Iowa have added about twice as many active voters to their rolls as Republicans, nudging ahead in total registration for the first time in years. The farm economy has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic. And though Trump still holds a small lead in the state, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average, he’s now airing TV advertisements there — a tacit acknowledgment that the campaign anticipates a contest.

“We were approaching ‘done’ status — stick a fork in us,” Sue Dvorsky, a former chairwoman of the Iowa Democratic Party, said of the party’s status after the 2016 election.

Now, she said, “the worm is turning.”

This could be a blow out!

Iowa had a very successful primary election - which is why the Republican legislature is trying to pass bills to keep that from happening this fall!

Are you scared Republicans???

Work hard for every vote everywhere. We are one vote away from losing again.

We must campaign like we are 10 points behind.

I remember the reports from four years ago (geez, but it feels more like 40) showing that Hillary was gonna breeze into the White House. No complacency allowed this time.

Rachel's show focused on this successful election yesterday. The repubs are now working on a bill to stop this successful model.

There are encouraging signs everywhere, in some very unlikely places. There have been election years where it felt like we were doing a fighting retreat threatening to turn into a rout at any moment. It was a struggle to keep going in a not very hopeful cause.

This year, it feels like our efforts will bear fruit, and we can get a government in place that will serve the people instead of the whims of a narcissistic bully.

self-involved New York City real estate salesman was maybe not the best move they could make in trying to solve their problems?
