. So the first thing the MIL does to Kamala is put her face in her hands and say in a very heavy NJ accent "Look at you! You're prettier than you are on television, Mike look at her"

It's the accent and the very Jersey way of speaking that was so funny.

And there is a lot of overlap between northern NJ and NYC borough accents.

But the rest of NJ doesn't sound like that.

When she quotes her mother-in-law, just pretend you're hearing a strong New Jersey accent!
