I'm sorry but should we really be applauding NASCAR

I mean I have nothing but respect for what Bubba Wallace is doing and as the only full time black driver in the sport it takes a lot of courage to do what he is doing, but NASCAR seems incredibly late to the party here. I mean it's 2020. Then again this is a good thing and so maybe better late than never. I don't know. Just seems like they could have taken this stand sooner.

If we refuse to acknowledge positively those taking steps to rectify their ways, what’s the good in that?

Not before that. And I don’t think they can hire enough security OR metal detectors for guns to do that.

When a guy named Bubba gets with the program, there's no tellin' what can happen. I don't care if they're late to the shindig, I welcome them. I feel the same way about Mitt Romney. Even though when he was running for president and he was secretly taped obviously talking about black folks not caring for their own lives, he is getting redemption. I'll take it. Even if they're only "faking it till they make it". Maybe someday we'll look back on police brutality the same way we look at the old photos of "whites only" drinking fountains. In shock instead par for the course. We have a big tent, and hopefully we'll need to expand that tent.

Maybe this will lead to something lasting. NASCAR will lose some fans in the short term, so I do recognizing this was a difficult but correct choice for them.

NASCAR has the stereotype of being all white, racist and drunk hicks...but it's still a stereotype since their audience isn't completely defined by that. Yeah sure, they will lose the stereotype demographic...but bet your ass they are not the majority and probably very small to their revenue streams.

... it is a long time coming but I really think it’s brave because of their fan base. This - and the protest/anthem choice - will hurt them financially.

Yes, they're not our base, or even allies but that makes them doing the right thing more applause worthy. They're bucking the racist in their base, and elsewhere to take a stand against racism.

They're literally taking a stand against systemic racism which a sizable amount of the people who pay them will disagree with. That's backbone, and it's worth our acknowledgement.

The same for the NFL. Better late than never, but they're rocking the boat against their profits. It's literally what we've been asking for for decades. Wake up, America. Now that they are we should acknowledge it and encourage more awakenings.
