NASCAR truck racer Ray Ciccarelli says he's quitting after Confederate flag ban

Ciccarelli is a 50-year-old racer. He currently participates in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, driving the No. 49 Chevrolet Silverado for CMI Motorsports.

Not much longer, it would appear.

On Wednesday, NASCAR announced that it was banning the flying of Confederate flags at its races. Also Wednesday, Ciccarelli shared a message on his Facebook page indicating he will quit racing after the 2020 season:

“Well its been a fun ride and dream come true but if this is the direction Nascar is headed we will not participate after 2020 season is over, i don’t believe in kneeling during Anthem nor taken ppl right to fly what ever flag they love. I could care less about the Confederate Flag but there are ppl that do and it doesn’t make them a racist all you are doing is f****** one group to cater to another and i ain’t spend the money we are to participate in any political BS!! So everything is for SALE!! Sarah Ciccarelli”

Out of 18 career races on the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, Ciccarelli has placed in the top 10 once.

To quote Ciccarelli, “The direction NASCAR is headed” is a big deal on this day. The professional racing league announced it will from this moment forward ban the Confederate flag at its events.

We had one close to my house growing up. That is where everyone went on Saturday night in the spring and summer. It was full of really scary people. I quit going my Senior year in HS because I got into a heated argument with a nut.

of course, the reality is that the vast majority of people who retire do not do it for some political statement of the moment.

he's clearly a hack and i guarantee that if he thought he had a realistic shot at big money he'd take an action other than retiring.

in other words, he already decided to retire, he's just claiming one reason to hide a more embarrassing reason.

hes gotta be losing $$$.

Very likely he was thinking about quiting before now, but believes what he is saying, using that as an excuse, possibly trying to build conservative cred to turn toward that easy con huckster $$$ if he can.

starts, in the truck series, at 50 years old.

Is this really him "leaving" or did his sponsors already tell him he's being dropped and this is an easier excuse then that he just sucks?

There are three types of drivers in that series ; really young guys (some even teenagers) trying to learn the ropes and hopefully advance to Xfinity or CUP; older experienced guys are who are decent enough drivers to make a good living driving the truck series but not good enough to advance much; and then there are guys like Ciccarelli who are there to just to fill out the starting grid and hopefully not get in the way and cause too many wrecks.

This is a terrible loss for NASCAR. All 3 members of the Ciccarelli Fan Club will no longer be buying tickets to future races.

Please note that at some of the Truck Series events you might see a CUP guy or Xfinity guy in the field. I know 2-time CUP Champion Kyle Bush owns his own truck team and sometimes runs in them. He usually wins.

Slowly getting rid of the racists.
I also love how some always stress the importance of freedom when it's of interest to them but deny the same privileges so easily for others.
