In a building, east of the U.S. Capitol sits the Washington, D.C. Armory. While some use it for an arena, auditorium, sports venue or event space, but it also is the home of the Washington, D.C. National Guard.
Apologies, cannot get more text copied. This story is from NYT, as it reads at RS.
Much more at link.

(17,086 posts)If it's just the reporter's interpretation, it's sensationalism.

(6,623 posts)Like it or not, the National Guard is a military organization. When troops are deployed, there is a supply chain that delivers their equipment, which includes weapons and ammunition. It would have been newsworthy -- and praiseworthy -- if they had showed up with neither, but that's not why they were called in. It was a show of force on the part of the administration, but there was nothing unusual in the protocols they followed once they were called.

(38,601 posts)I think the reporter meant munitions are stored in there where they could have been used if needed.

Thank God they don't have guns!! Oh wait...
Damn Dick Act, reinventing the militia and all.
I am quite happy they are "well-regulated"
People who try to make an issue of stuff like this are asses. Screw NYT and RS die pushing sensational BS like this.
Edit: Pssst - know what else they have?
The 113th Wing fiercely defends the National Capitol Region with an unrivlaed 24/7 Aerospace Control Alert force and provides domestic operation capabilities in support of the District of Columbia.
